Pay It Forward: An International Yoga Day event by Certified Calm

Certified Calm has always believed health is a holistic endeavor — as much wellness of the heart and mind, as it is wellness of the body. What sets yoga apart from other athletic practices has always been its emphasis on mental health. Practitioners all over the world have often cited its psychological benefits as a core reason for their continued commitment to the activity.

Last June 21, 2017, in celebration of the International Yoga Day, Certified Calm has partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Barangay Addition Hills. Ria Tirazona conducted a yoga class among the residents of DSWD’s Sanctuary Village. The Sanctuary Village is a residential institution that serves as a safe house for women recovering from psychosis and other mental illnesses.

It was such a happy and heartwarming event. One of the participant’s change to participants described the activity as, “parang mapayapang pag daloy sa dalampasigan” (like a peaceful flow of the ocean). Through this activity we hope that we have provided a spark of positivity and energy among these women. Our mission at Certified Calm has always been to empower those around us to be the best selves they can be. None is this more true than for those who often feel ostracised from the rest of society.

If you’re interested in donating and/or helping out, you can contact the Sanctuary Village at (02) 532-1164 or visit them at Welfareville Compound, Jose Fabella Drive, Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City.
